Passions often lead to professions, as this upbeat title in the Green-Collar Careers series shows. "Becoming a wildlife photographer evolved from my love of being outside in search of whatever I might find," says Gary Carter, one of the many individuals spotlighted in chapters that begin with a succinct, informative overview before moving on to specific career areas. There is inevitable overlap among the categories: government-run parks and forestry, outdoor adventure, science, and wildlife sanctuaries. The browsable format, combining many crisp color photos with blocks of narrative texts and sidebars featuring specific ecoprofessionals, will easily lead students through the survey of nature-focused careers. On a final page of recommendations for ways to jump on the green-career track, Gazlay encourages readers to develop strong communication skills and a grasp of the facts in order to better share their enthusiasms, and the succinct, basic definitions of terms offered here ("Wildlife includes all living things that have not been domesticated") are a good place to start. A glossary and suggested reading list complete this accessible, timely title.
