On a visit to an amusement park with her aunt, uncle, and friend Eric, Cam Jansen uses her photographic memory and deductive reasoning to unmask the thief who steals her aunt's wallet. The first suspects are roller-skating teenagers who knock Aunt Katie down, but Cam perseveres, and the wallet is eventually recovered. Without belaboring the point, Adler gently exposes the dangers of suspicion based on stereotypes. This chapter book's generous print, sufficient illustrations, and down-to-earth story line will please young mystery lovers. (Reviewed Apr. 1, 1992)

Horn Book

Another successful entry in a popular mystery series for beginning chapter book readers. Cam and her friend Eric find more than their usual share of adventure at the amusement park when Cam's Aunt Kate discovers that her wallet has been stolen.

School Library Journal

Gr 2-4-- An amusement park is the setting for this addition to a popular series. After spending time on the various rides, Cam, her Aunt Katie, Uncle George, and friend Eric decide to eat at the snack bar. That's when Aunt Katie notices that her wallet is missing, and the mystery unfolds. With the help of her photographic memory, Cam begins to gather and eliminate clues; before long, the guilty party is rounded up (at the haunted house, of course). The story flows logically and convincingly from problem to solution, with a few twists that add just the right amount of suspense for this audience. Cam is once again portrayed as a strong character, making this another worthy transitional chapter book. The format is open and inviting, and humorous black-and-white drawings appear on every other page. --Cheryl Cufari, N.A. Walbran Elementary School, Oriskany, NY
