OHERN, Kerri & Janet Riehecky . The Battle of the Alamo illus. by D. McHargue. ISBN 0-8368-6201-5 . LC 2005027870. ea vol: unpaged. (Graphic Histories Series). further reading. Web sites. CIP. World Almanac Library 2006. PLB $26. Gr 3-5 These graphic histories offer accessible overviews of the Gold Rush and the siege of the Alamo. Glossy, colorful pages with more illustrations than text make them quick reads. However, the drawings are a little crude, the narratives are perfunctory, and the conventional, staid layouts do nothing to highlight the drama of these two compelling events. A list of quality Web sites and books on each topic helpfully point readers toward more substantial resources. Lisa Goldstein, Brooklyn Public Library, NY
