Each title discusses equipment, warming up, safety, and technique. Skating covers gliding, skating backward, carving turns, crossover turns, and stops. Swimming discusses everything from floating and treading water to the dog paddle, shallow diving, and several strokes. Clear, color photographs and drawings of children or teens participating in the sport offer step-by-step instruction and demonstrate correct form. The two-page chapters with short, descriptive sentences and colorful, illustrated side boxes will appeal to young readers. Rick Cross's Superguides: Swimming (DK, 2000) is also a solid choice for this audience. Attractive and informative how-to guides. Diane Olivo-Posner, Long Beach Public Library, CA
