This revised title in Facts On File's A to Z of African Americans series includes about 170 alphabetically arranged biographical essays. Entries identify birth year (and death, if needed) as well as what the person is known for, along with influences and important life events. Black-and-white photos are provided for about one-third of the individuals. Suggestions for further reading follow every article, and a bibliography of books is found at the end of the volume. Also at the end are a list of entries by birth decade, a list by topic, and an index. Coverage begins with Hank Aaron and ends with Tiger Woods, with gymnast Dominique Dawes, soccer player Brianna Collette Scurry, and skater Debi Thomas among the many baseball, basketball, and football stars. Content is relatively current; Shani Davis' participation in the 2010 Olympics is included. This title may be useful for quick reference, though most of the information is available elsewhere.
