Starred Review The Law Enforcement Agencies series is as formidable as the various groups it introduces. Solidly and comprehensively researched, each book takes a subject of inherent interest to kids and puts it in context of primarily U.S. but also world history. By covering these groups from their inception to the present day, the books offer a sweeping historical arc, which also gives students a sense of how the country has changed and evolved. While one might envision the work of a bomb squad as something contemporary, Bomb Squad shows that explosives have always been a means of striking terror throughout history. The volume covers the making and defusing of bombs, nuclear devices, and headline-making acts of terror. An attractive design, plenty of photos, and solid back matter complete each package. Extremely useful for students and appealing for browsers.
