The Perspectives on Modern World History series is presented using the framework that certain tragic events in the twentieth century are undeniable pivot points that drastically changed the direction of history, but also that attitudes and ideas about these events vary among historians. To illustrate that concept, this monograph is divided into chapters that cover topics such as background on King's life, controversies surrounding the details of his death, and personal narratives of his assassination. Each of these chapters is further divided into viewpoints on the information presented, each written by a different author. While this presentation effectively illustrates the idea of differing historical perspectives, not every viewpoint includes a counterargument; and though the book includes a detailed bibliography, many viewpoints are lean on primary sources. A chronological time line of King's life and citations for further reading are included in the appendix. The book is a good research resource for students with a existing knowledge of Martin Luther King Jr.'s life and work, but who are seeking differing perspectives for deeper understanding.
