Richmond adopts a kid's-eye-view of potty training in this smiley-faced, pastel-colored lesson in self-encouragement. An unnamed little girl speaks directly to her presumed child reader, running through all the big-girl things she can do. But all is not perfect: "I still wear diapers though." Enter her "very own potty" citing, indeed! ich nevertheless does not work magic right away: "Bear and I sit on the potty and read books but no pee or poop happens." The sole sad-faced illustration is the following spread, which shows the girl frowning above a puddle of urine. But have no fear! Dad and Mom are encouraging and supply stars for good behavior, and soon the girl is a-peeing and a-pooping and a-wiping and a-flushing, all with exemplary form. Richmond's art has the feel of a kid's own drawings, complete with skewed proportions and watercolors that heed no mind to the lines of the drawings. It's optimistic as heck, as it should be. Simultaneously published is the almost identical Big Boys Go Potty (2012).

A little boy and girl introduce readers to the ups and downs of potty training and what it means to be a big kid. In both books, simple and to-the-point text (identical except for gender) provides a kid-friendly approach to training, bathroom etiquette, and positive reinforcement. The illustrations are childlike and unremarkable, but these titles are suitable introductions to the topic.
