An inspired translation preserves the descriptive, but immediate, tone of the Newbery Honor book 'Abel's Island' (Farrar). In the Spanish translation of this story about survival and self-discovery, the use of language, as in the original, contributes to the subtle humor.

Determined to make his way back, Abel experiences one adventure after another in this translation of Steig's Newbery Honor book. This is a good translation, and one which should circulate often. The endearing mice drawn in the artist's familiar cartoon style appear in black and white throughout the narrative.
