Horn Book
An inspired translation preserves the descriptive, but immediate, tone of the Newbery Honor book 'Abel's Island' (Farrar). In the Spanish translation of this story about survival and self-discovery, the use of language, as in the original, contributes to the subtle humor.

Gr 4-6-Abel has a very secure life with his wife Amanda until a severe rainstorm sweeps him away to a deserted island. Determined to make his way back, Abel experiences one adventure after another in this translation of Steig's Newbery Honor book. This is a good translation, and one which should circulate often. The endearing mice drawn in the artist's familiar cartoon style appear in black and white throughout the narrative.
