Prolific writer Kalman introduces the art of writing about oneself. Though there are many good tips here for writing memoir or biography w to research, conduct interviews, and find photographs lman should have written more about organization, and then taken her own advice. This is something of a hodgepodge. The book starts with the less interesting information (title and copyright pages and the glossary and index) and moves to the more useful (how to do research and how to revise). There are some odd chapters, too, like "Words to Know," which gives definitions for a slew of words kids may or may not need, like narrator, refugee, tradition. Kalman effectively uses her own childhood memoir about fleeing Hungary to make solid points about writing. Heavily illustrated (though many of the photos are stock), this has a bright look that kids will like.
