In this third Zoomer caper, three beagle dogs, including the pup, Zoomer, are watching for Santa from their perch in a tree house on Christmas Eve. Then something flies past and crashes in the backyard. Instead of Santa's sleigh, however, they find an enormous spaceship, which quickly disgorges an extraterrestrial family (mother, father, three kids); their robot; and their monster pet, carrying a gigantic picnic basket strapped on its caterpillar-like back. All kinds of high-tech revelry ensue. The boisterously bright illustrations overflow with these Seussian extraterrestrial inventions. But the spaceship is stalled forever without Zoomer giving up his favorite toy. Unexpected yuletide fun with a nice kicker about generosity.

In his third book, Zoomer and brothers Hooper and Cooper are looking out for flying reindeer when a giant spaceship lands in their yard. The friendly aliens entertain the pooches (they have a force-field swimming pool!), and Zoomer selflessly helps fix the spaceship in time for Christmas--a good deed predictably repaid by Santa. Clever, brightly colored illustrations carry the festive story.
Kirkus Reviews
In this third entry in an imaginative series, Zoomer the zestful hound dog hits his stride with a wacky Christmas Eve visit from aliens who crash-land in the field near his house. Zoomer and his older twin brothers are shocked to see the inhabitants of the spacecraft: parents, three children, a robot and a gigantic, multilegged pet called a yarple-headed gigantaziller. The visit with the aliens takes Zoomer into fantastical territory with a picnic of out-of-this-world food, games with amazing equipment, and a swim in a magically concocted "force-field swimming pool" with individual submarines for each kid and a friendly sea monster. The spaceship, however, is broken and in need of a new wheel. Zoomer generously donates his beloved tricycle so the alien family can get home for Christmas, and they leave the canine brothers with a stellar Christmas gift: a real star for the top of their tree. Zoomer is further rewarded on Christmas morning with a new, two-wheeled bicycle and a special note from Santa. Humorous illustrations showcase the expressive pooches and the amusing aliens with lots of funny details to pore over in the large-scale format. Kids will connect with this wildly exuberant fantasy, and Zoomer seems destined to zoom off into further ingenious adventures in unexplored territories. (Picture book. 4-8)

K-Gr 2 On the day before Christmas, Zoomer the pup and his brothers, Hooper and Cooper, are hanging out in their tree house, anxiously awaiting the arrival of Santa Claus. However, they forget all about him when a spaceship lands in the backyard, bearing a friendly family of antennaed aliens, a cool robot, and the family pet (sort of a cross between an elephant and a caterpillar). The pups and aliens spend a splendid afternoon together, sharing a picnic lunch, a rousing game of "zlammaroo," and a dip in the portable force-field pool. When the aliens' father discovers that the spaceship was damaged in the landing, Zoomer gives up his beloved tricycle so the space family can get home in time for Christmas. His kindness does not go unnoticed by Santa, and he is appropriately rewarded. This is a silly holiday tale with bright, cheerful illustrations and a good message about sharing and welcoming newcomers. Fans of Zoomer's first two books will not be disappointed.
