Plenty of series tackle the five senses, but the Your Five Senses and Your Sixth Sense series makes the unusual move of dedicating a volume to intuition. The results, as you might expect, are a little wishy-washy, though given the low word count, Reade manages to squeeze in a good number of interesting thoughts. Intuition is a gut feeling, she writes, however, it mostly uses your brain. The right side of your brain, to be exact, which warns you if you are in danger. No science is presented, though the pervasiveness of the idea is illustrated through the word's Latin roots and the concept as it's known in Japan (chokkan). Crisp photos of wary-looking kids provide the tense atmosphere, while the text pops from clean white backgrounds. As an encouragement to trust your gut, this book works.
