(A True Book). diags. illus. photos. reprods. further reading. glossary. index. Web sites. CIP. Childrens Press 2007. PLB $26. Gr 2-4 -Featuring a new author and a colorful redesign, these volumes expertly update Larry Dane Brimners 1998 editions, and also add a title that looks past Pluto into the Kuiper Belt, the Oort Cloud, and the search for extrasolar planets. Each one matches a clearly reasoned, matter-of-fact text to plenty of small but sharply reproduced color photos and pages of new or restated facts, and rounded off with multimedia lists of audience-appropriate further resources. Despite minor bobbles (for instance, Landau assigns the space probe New Horizons different speeds in Pluto and Beyond Pluto ), these remain the gold standard for post-picture-book nonfiction, and should be first purchases for any library that serves fledgling readers.

Jupiter is so large that all of the other planets in the solar system could fit inside of it.
A True Book: Space series dives into the many components that make each planet distinctive and exceptional, as well as explore many of the other components that make up Space. This series includes an age appropriate (grades 3-5) introduction to curriculum-relevant subjects and a robust resource section that encourages independent study.
Readers will discover what sets this gas giant apart from the other planets. They will also learn how it was discovered, take a tour of its many moons, and find out why it has rings.
