In this low-low-key entry in the Orca Currents series, 14-year-old Ace is one-half of a folksy duo known as Two e other half being superhot songstress Lisa. They have a ball writing songs and busking on the street, so why can't Ace get up the nerve to ask her out? Enter enterprising cameraman Denny, who thinks a music video for their song "Coming Apart at the Dreams" will be just the thing to jumpstart everyone's careers. Cool idea, until the blooper reel goes viral, mostly because of the copious shots of Lisa's cleavage and the humiliating disaster of her bra pads flying out of her top. These "flying cutlets" lead to hundreds of thousands of YouTube hits, but it doesn't mean much to Ace, seeing as Lisa will no longer talk to him. This feels more like an extended sequence than a full novel, and the highly improbable conclusion doesn't help much. Still, this mild-mannered diversion goes down easy, with Ace learning a lesson about dignity important one in the social-media age.

Horn Book

Ace agrees to let a hapless friend record a music video of him and his bandmate (and crush), Lisa. When the blooper reel goes viral, they get plenty of attention--just not the kind they were hoping for--and Ace tries to turn things around, musically and romantically. The premise is intriguing, but Ace is unrealistically slow to catch on to what's happening around him.

Following the demise of his first band, Ace has started a duo called Two with Lisa, a girl he has a huge crush on. As Ace and Lisa get serious about their music, Denny, Ace's hapless friend, tries to help out by filming their every move so that he can create the ultimate music video. As a joke, Denny puts together a Two video capturing all of the embarrassing moments—moments that Lisa in particular doesn't want shared. Somehow, the video gets posted on YouTube. Lisa and Ace find themselves starring in the latest comedic viral video. Lisa is humiliated and refuses to talk to Ace—until their fame turns out to have positive results.
