Picking up right where The Perfectionists (2014) left off, murder happens. While the girls try to figure out who killed Nolan and their film studies teacher, Mr. Granger, more people l privy to their secret conversation in class e or are severely injured. The girls' status as murder suspects changes once one of their boyfriends is arrested, and the girls relax until a police profiler-psychologist interviews them one by one. The trust between them begins to erode, and a surprising conclusion stuns everyone involved. The terrible and frightening things the mind can do under stress and shock play out beautifully.
Voice of Youth Advocates
When Nolan Hotchkiss, Beacon Heights's golden boy and overall jerk, ends up dead, suspicion immediately falls on five senior girls who devised a prank to pay him back for all of his torment. Despite evidence to the contrary, the girls maintain their innocence and hope that his death is simply a coincidence. Unfortunately, Nolan is not the only person placed on their "payback" list, and someone is working to exert justice on their behalf. As each enemy experiences an untimely death, the girls race to find the killer before he or she can complete the mission. With each piece of evidence, however, the girls realize that the killer knows too much to be an outsider. Sometimes it is better to keep friends close, except for when one is a killer. The Good Girls serves as the sequel to The Perfectionists (HarperCollins, 2014/VOYA October 2014) and is told from multiple perspectives, with each chapter alternating among the five girls. The novel could serve as a stand-alone since the author effectively provides details from the first novel that update the reader without spoiling key elements of The Perfectionists. The Good Girls possesses a fast-moving plot that uses suspense to propel the mystery of finding the killer. Although the story line lags in a few places, the author devises a plot twist that catches readers completely off guard. This novel is well written and would appeal to female readers due to some romance and underlying themes, which makes it a positive addition to teachers' and librarians' shelves.Courtney M. Krieger.
