Welcome to Bustletown, a small, busy community surrounded by farmland. In this nearly wordless picture book, detailed outdoor scenes feature people walking around town while events unfold and the characters' narratives develop. In the opening scene, a cross section of a three-story apartment building offers clues about its residents and how they spend their time. Outside, two workers sweep the street, while an elderly couple loads a pumpkin into a wagon and two children walk along carrying colorful, animal-shaped lanterns. Page by page the scenes vary, but characters reappear and time passes. The pictures leave plenty of space for active imaginations. A German illustrator, Berner creates a European community in attractive, detailed drawings brightened with pleasing colors. Previous volumes in the All around Bustletown series include Winter (2019), Spring (2020), and Summer (2020). First published in Germany, this sturdy, large-format volume is technically a board book, though with its large size (10¼ inches by 13? inches), picture-book collections may be a better fit. Wherever it is shelved, many seek-and-find fans will find this an absorbing picture book.

This fun, oversized board book introduces kids to the different ways we live, work, and play in fall.
The leaves are blowing off the trees and the birds are flying south in Bustletown. Farmers are preparing the fields for winter and kids are back in school. And look, there's a water main break that's causing havoc and a chimney sweeper perched on a roof! Each time readers look at these delightfully detailed spreads they'll discover something new, whether it's what's for sale at the outdoor market or how many pumpkins they can spot on a single page. Familiar characters appear on each page--a maestro and a violinist, a balloon-toting nun, and a mom with her baby. All the activity culminates in a harvest celebration lit by dozens of paper lanterns in every shape and size. In the tradition of Richard Scarry and Where's Waldo, this book encourages kids to return again and again to these charming spreads, following along with the characters and inventing their own stories. As they peruse scenes from the home to the farm, from the shopping center to the park, kids will enjoy identifying the different things that fall brings.
