ALA Booklist (Sun Apr 01 00:00:00 CDT 2012)

The long-standing People in the News series offers well-researched, well-written books about people kids may be hearing about. The colorful design features plenty of photos, and, unlike the stock pictures seen in some series books, these look, for the most part, to have been carefully chosen. Glenn Beck does an excellent job of delving into the unsettled life of the self-proclaimed "rodeo clown" and fitting him into the spectrum of television and radio personalities. Explaining Beck's stand on issues and his flamboyant persona is no mean feat, but the book is up to the task. The books in this series are not generically written; the authors each have a voice, which personalizes their subjects. Sidebars add additional information, and the source notes for quotes are quite welcome.
