Voice of Youth Advocates
The title says it all. Cooper and Gee worked together to create a guide for beginners to HTML basics, CSS, and WordPress. Gee's comic-strip story follows Kim as she creates a website for her artist's portfolio. The black-and-white art is simplistic and creates a Wizard of Oz allusion within each chapter. After each story, Cooper brings in the technical text to delve into the topic from the comic. First, Kim explores HTML with a Guru; then HTML is taught. Then, Kim explores CSS with Glinda the Good Witch of CSS; then Cooper teaches the reader more in-depth about CSS. Finally, Kim reaches WordPress City and Cooper teaches the ins and outs of using WordPress.Originally a Kickstarter campaign that found a home with No Starch, Cooper's knowledge in the technical side of website development is balanced with Gee's comic-strip story. The comic art engages the readers and gives the broad picture of what the reader will learn from Cooper's text which follows. Best suited for beginning self-learning, it is one of the few books on the topic which entertains as well as educates.Kristin Fletcher-Spear.
