This 32-page entry in the American Revolution series contains a good deal of information about Abigail Adams, as well as several other women who lived contemporaneously. The book begins with Adams writing about witnessing the Battle of Bunker Hill. The narrative then moves back in time to introduce a young Abigail o, thanks to her father, was unusually well educated d chronicles her relationship with farmer John Adams. Her married life is surrounded by important historical events, culminating with her becoming First Lady (and later First Mother). Maloof includes brief sketches of writer Mercy Otis Warren, poet Phillis Wheatley, Margaret Cochran Corbin, and others. Historical etchings, artworks, and copies of letters illustrate. Sometimes, especially in the sidebars, information is truncated, but this intro will intrigue readers. The final spread offers questions to ponder.
