The team who paired demons and gangsters in The Damned here usher hellspawn into the Old West. The story revolves around a set of six cursed revolvers, the most powerful of which belonged to the bloodthirsty Confederate General Hume before he was dispatched to the grave. His minions, each armed with a cursed gun of their own, and his wildly evil wife resurrect the general and set out to recover his lost six-shooter, which has fallen into the hands of the comely young Becky. She teams with Drake Sinclair, once a soldier of Hume's, who harbors his own shadowy inclinations, and a heap of hell breaks loose. The lingering, stupefying horror of the Civil War makes ample tonal background for the story, and the bloody explosions of flying lead are cinematically rendered in Hurtt's savvy, invigorating art that is especially notable for some arresting wide-screen panels and niftily integrated sound effects. Genre mashups are often little more than the sums of their parts. With a wink and a nod, this one blows their likes straight to kingdom come.
