Stories about Jack the bulldog, other animals, and the Ingalls sisters have been selected from the Little House books and adapted to a beginning chapter-book format. The alterations to the texts mar the beauty of Wilder's prose. Children will be better served by waiting a year or two to read the original novels or by hearing them read aloud. The art is a poor imitation of Garth Williams's work.
