Given the pleasant, free-floating plots of Waid's rebooted Archie Comics, this latest chunk feels remarkably focused, and that focus is squarely on red-headed problem teen Cheryl Blossom. If the name doesn't ring a bell, then you must have pooped out on Archie strips before her 1982 debut. Basically, she's Veronica on acid, and in this iteration, the two meet at Veronica's temporary boarding school in Switzerland and become rivals. Through some complicated plot maneuvers, both girls end up racing back to Riverdale ronica to reclaim Archie and Cheryl to steal him. Everything beyond this A-plot is in soft-focus chie trying to adopt Jughead's zen, Dilton's disastrous social-media app d the result is a slight dip in the story's congenial mood. This is a meaner batch of comics, though it is probably a smart idea not to pile all villain duties on poor Reggie alone. Eisma's angular art fits the sharper tone, and he has a way with communicating expressions even in small panels that always adds welcome emotion and humanity. Now let's get back to Betty!
