Sakamichi Onoda has one dream in high school, to join the anime club. Every week since fourth grade, he has made the 90km bike ride to and from Tokyo's Akihabara shopping district just to buy anime and toys. But when school starts, Onoda not only discovers that the anime club has been disbanded; he also gets challenged by fellow first-year student Imaizumi, a very competitive bike racer. But how can Onoda and his "mommy bike" ever win a race against a future champion? Watanabe's title stands out from other sports manga because of its reluctant protagonist. Onoda doesn't want to be a sports star but finds himself dragged into bike racing. As he begins to realize that not all jocks are bad people, the athletes he comes across also find their expectations challenged. Watanabe's art features a lot of motion lines, but he keeps the page layouts clear and the characters distinct so that the story flows smoothly. This omnibus edition is a terrific addition to manga collections.
