Suzanne Collins went from being the popular author of the Underland Chronicles to the superstar author of the Hunger Games trilogy. Bailey, working primarily from several different source interviews, does an excellent job of tracing Collins' life and showing how her experiences army brat, television writer, and devoted reader aped her writing. Though most of the focus is on the Hunger Games series and movies, this entry in the All About the Author series also discusses the origins of her books (her father's experience in Vietnam was pivotal), the underlying messages, and how she approaches writing. The sidebars (e.g., the role of a TV series writer) extend the text well. Full-page photos vary in relevancy (a poster of Poe, an author Collins read as a child, seems an odd way to start the book), and there are no movie stills. Still, Collins' many fans will relish this, and learn a lot, too.
