Miwa (Dogs) satisfyingly expands on the animated web series of the same name with a collection of action-packed manga vignettes. In the world of Remnant, Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang are training to become Huntresses. Using weapons that wouldn-t be out of place in a Final Fantasy game, Huntsmen and Huntresses destroy Grimm, creatures of evil that only exist to kill humans. Each member of team RWBY gets her own one-shot here, appealing to viewers of the show who want to go deeper into the backstory of favorite characters. Readers will learn how Weiss received her scar, be introduced to a new type of Grimm, and, in the collection-s standout story, see RWBY join another team, JNPR, in a thrilling battle. Miwa-s art captures the fast-paced nature of the fights from the animated original and the sillier aspects of the personalities on the team. The only disappointments are Yang and Blake-s sections, which basically rehash trailers. Though this tie-in relies on background knowledge of the series, it will impress the show-s eager fan base, as Miwa conveys the essence of RWBY, highlighting why it-s become an international hit.
