Through an enticing, scrapbook-style layout and dynamic, bite-size chapters, the DK findout! series gives readers a fun, informative foray into a given subject. Maya, Incas, and Aztecs explores the three great civilizations of the ancient South and Central Americas, examining the way their societies were structured. Organization here is less effective ctoids on the different civilizations are jumbled together instead of specifically arranged, which may cause confusion, and a section on slavery in the Aztec world unfortunately glosses over the topic. Still, this volume is undeniably high-interest, packed with fascinating information and appeal, despite its structural flaws. Each book opens with a handful of questions to guide reading (the things to "find out" that give the series its name), and, in addition to the trivia-filled pages, contains an interview with an expert in the field, graphs and time lines, and sections for note-taking. Occasional maps and graphs add to the liveliness while providing opportunities for classroom activities. A budding researcher's dream.
