In 1998 in New Jersey, 17-year-old Chris has been working at Vinyl Destination for a month and still feels like the new girl among all the other hip workers at the music shop. Her fellow employees shoo her d only her t of the store every night, making Chris certain the all-female crew is hiding something. She is shocked to learn that the girls are part of an injustice-battling vigilante club. The story is filled with angst and likable characters. Chris is relatable as an insecure teenage girl, and one burning question throughout the story is whether Maggie will return Chris' romantic feelings. The time period is reinforced by constant references to late-1990s bands, pop culture, clothing, and cultural subgroups. The illustrations are colorful and refined, and the diverse cast of characters presents a broad range of identities that are all treated matter-of-factly. Teen fans of the girl power in Lumberjanes, adult fans of the movie High Fidelity, and those who were coming of age in the late '90s will love the series.
