In this solid follow-up to Girl's Best Friend, a movie begins filming in Maggie Brooklyn's neighborhood. Then its heartthrob star disappears; also, someone is egging dogs in Prospect Park. Dog-walking detective Maggie investigates both cases (and is oblivious to what's going on in her personal life) with characteristic cheerfulness, wit, and smarts, leaving readers hoping for another sequel.

Gr 4-6 Amateur detective and professional dog-walker Maggie Brooklyn Sinclair falls right into her next case as dogs in her neighborhood are mysteriously being egged while walking in the park. Meanwhile, a movie starring tween heartthrob Seth Ryan begins filming in her neighborhood and the seventh grader and her friends plan to be extras in it. While Maggie gets kicked off the set after just one day, she does manage to catch the star's attention. She is overwhelmed as she begins noticing that her friend Lucy is suddenly spending a lot of time with her twin brother, Finn. At the same time, Maggie is dealing with her own romantic interest in her friend Milo. Before she can straighten out who is interested in whom, Seth disappears. The police think he has been kidnapped. Can Maggie crack the case of the dog-egger and find Seth Ryan as well? With likable characters and a fast-moving plot, this sequel to Girl's Best Friend (Bloomsbury, 2010) is sure to be a hit. Perfect for fans who are aging out of Judy Moody or Allie Finkle and mystery fans who enjoy Sammy Keyes. Sarah Polace, Cuyahoga County Public Library, Parma, OH
