Adam Murphy digs up more history in two new volumes in the Corpse Talk graphic novel series (2 new titles). In aptly colored, dark cartoon vignettes, the author interviews corpse versions of historical figures. While not in-depth, each thematically and chronologically arranged book, filled with wit and puns galore, offers engaging introductions to 18 individuals, including the famous, the infamous, and, occasionally, the unexpected. Within each interview, Murphy highlights the figure's continued influence on history. Queens and Kings and Other Royal Rotters gives a diverse look at royalty throughout the ages, from Cleopatra, Nero, Richard the Lionheart, and Queen Victoria to Chinese Emperor Qin Shi Huang Di, Saladin (Sultan of Egypt and Syria), Aztec Emperor Moctezuma II, and Shaka Zulu. Adding more interest to each interview is a concluding double-page infographic with more information about the figure's time period. For instance, the interview with Ramesses II ends with a visual depiction of mummification while Spartacus' closes with an infographic of gladiator battles. With reluctant readers in mind, Murphy makes history come alive more ways than one.
