In the second title of her Mean Girl Makeover trilogy Christian-scripture-based antibullying series that aims to show the points of view of the bully, victim, and bystander e tackles the victim's perspective. Quiet sixth-grader Ginger, a Lord of the Rings fanatic, is a newcomer to her school and quickly becomes the fixation of mean-girl Kylie. Kylie's attacks on Ginger hit close to home, particularly when she starts to spread rumors that Ginger's mother died in a drunk-driving accident for which Ginger's dad is responsible. With the help of Lydia, a little person and the adult in charge of the school's antibullying program, Ginger attempts to counter Kylie's manipulative behavior with sound guidance. But will it be enough to stop Kylie? Though at times verging on didactic, this novel nevertheless probes many of the relevant aspects of bullying and the challenges it creates for kids, parents, and schools. Recommended for communities looking to bulk up their Christian tween fiction or antibullying resources.

Gr 5 Up-Told from the perspective of the victim, this sequel brings to light the importance of being aware of bullying, particularly in today's technologically advanced world. Sixth-grader Ginger is grieving her mother's death. Adding to her pain is Kylie Steepe, the "Queen Bee" of Gold County Middle School. Kylie and her pack of friends torment Ginger both in the school hallways and on social media. Throughout the story, Ginger receives some positive feedback and advice from various secondary characters (for instance, a counselor helps Ginger become more confident). There are many references to religion, and Rue does not shy away from underscoring how Ginger's Christian faith plays a role in her journey. Using simple and straightforward language, Rue tackles a serious issue through relatable characters. VERDICT Ideal as a parent-child discussion-starter on the subject of bullying, particularly in faith-based settings. H. Islam, Brooklyn Public Library

Bullying doesn't end in the hallway anymore--with a smartphone or tablet, it can happen anywhere. According to the Ambassadors 4 Kids Club, one out of every four students is bullied--and 85% of these situations never receive intervention. Parents, students, and teachers alike have amped up discussions on how to solve the bullying problem for a networked generation of kids. Written by bestselling author, Nancy Rue, each book in the Mean Girl Makeover trilogy focuses on a different character's point of view: the bully, the victim, and the bystander. The books, based on Scripture, show solid biblical solutions to the bullying problem set in a story for tween girls. You Can't Sit With Us, the second book in the series, tells the story of Ginger Hollingberry, a new sixth grader at Gold Country Middle School. Ginger has been the brunt of teasing and taunting from the queen bee of GCMS, Kylie Steppe, and her so-called Wolf Pack. Kylie and the Pack favor a new and especially hurtful medium of taunting: social networking. What follows is a candid look into the growing world of cruel cyberbullying, showing kids that bullying doesn't always end at school--it can now follow you even into your home and torture 24 hours a day.
