Following the success of the Big Ideas for Little Philosophers, McQuerry and Rosenthal now turn to the physical world in Big Ideas for Little Environmentalists (4 titles). This appealing board-book series looks to leaders in the field (sometimes literally), giving light accounts of their lives, work, and values. Each book begins with the statement, "An environmentalist cares for and protects the world around us: the land, water, and air, and the animals and people who live on our planet," and closes with encouraging ways in which kids can be environmentalists themselves. Conservation with Jane Goodall, naturally, looks to Goodall's work with chimpanzees, paying particular attention to her efforts to protect these animals and their habitats. Cute digital illustrations will hold the attention of the littlest readers, but the longer text, big ideas, and reader-directed questions will also work with those who have graduated to picture books.

PreS-K New readers will encounter informative, relatable text about Jane Goodall's life as a conservationist, accompanied by vocabulary and visuals with simple features. This valuable series introduces young readers to celebrated environmentalists, describing their awareness and care for nature as children to their inspirational work as adults to protect the Earth. VERDICT If only in the name of cultural literacy, children need to hear these names early on.
Discover Jane Goodall's big ideas about conserving habitats and ways even the youngest kids can help, too!
Even little children can make a positive impact on the environment. Jane Goodall has dedicated her life to studying chimpanzees, and realized that sometimes people hurt the places where animals have always lived. She began to teach others how we can enjoy nature while also making sure that the homes of animals aren’t suffering.
Kids will come away from this book with questions about what animal habitats they can care for in their own community, and how conservation work makes sure all people and animals have a healthy home.
