These installments in the Movements and Resistance series (2 new titles) span history to show both past and continuing organized protests. Using a graphic-novel format with artwork that reflects the time period, the books combine action-packed scenes with chunked text that gives background information on the rise of the protest, its leader, and the movement's impact on national or world history. Shays' Rebellion weaves descriptions of the American Revolution and the debt crisis it created into the story of Daniel Shays, who, with other soldiers, formed a rebellion to protest high taxes. The final chapter emphasizes how the resistance influenced the newly created U.S. government and its constitution. Most of the dialogue is imagined with a few exceptions of uncited quotes from Founding Fathers. Related facts conclude each volume in this series for researchers and casual nonfiction readers alike.

In 1786, the Massachusetts government was seizing farmers lands and throwing them in jail for unpaid debts and taxes. But many people couldnt pay because they had not yet been paid for fighting in the Revolutionary War just a few years before. Frustrated by this treatment, Daniel Shays led upset citizens in an armed revolt. Although their rebellion was short lived, it made clear to Americas leaders that the young nation needed to change its laws, paving the way for the creation of the U.S. Constitution.
