ALA Booklist

Young sports-car fans will find everything they are looking for in these new books in the Speed Machines series. True, the writing can sometimes be a bit clunky or come off like an advertisement, and the endless car photos might feel repetitive to a less enthralled reader. But the target audience for these books won't mind. For these readers, the photos, descriptions, and statistics for each car us a comparison chart of all the cars discussed at the end of each book ll more than make up for any deficiencies. For additional substance, the books also include relevant cultural and historical information related to the car manufacturer, as well as some science content. Maserati goes back to the early history of automobiles, including photographs. The writing and photos are unlikely to win over new sports-car aficionados, but they certainly provide enough enthusiasm to appeal to young fans and draw them into reading.
