In this feast for the senses, luscious photographs lure the reader into each season. Spring is first, with baby animals and shoots of new plants. Descriptive words provide the narrative for the pictures showing springlike happenings. For each season, we see the colors of the plants and the sky, can almost eel the hot or cold of the weather on our skin. The enjoyable bactivities of each season are highlighted, such as drinking marshmallow-laden hot chocolate in winter and wearing flip-flops in summer. Onomatopoeic words aptly describe splashing in the puddle or the crunchy, crispy, blustery feel of fall. Words and photographs play an equal part in making this concept book as fun and friendly as it is.

Horn Book (Wed Apr 01 00:00:00 CDT 2015)

More celebratory than scientific, this entry in the concept-book series superficially explains the seasons. As usual, Brocket's crisp, attractive photos do an excellent job of reflecting the descriptive language ("Spring feels fresh and cool and breezy"; "Fiery sunsets match the colors of the leaves"). Kids will eagerly answer the question at book's end: "Which season do you like best?"

School Library Journal (Sun Jun 01 00:00:00 CDT 2014)

Pres-Gr 2 Using simple language full of rich and playful adjectives, Brocket briefly explores each of the seasons. She includes seasonal characteristics (spring: "days are longer and lighter; "pale blue skies and fluffy white clouds, showers and sunshine") as well as what children might do in each of the season's varying weather (summer: "bare feet and sunglasses; winter: "stay indoors and keep warm and cozy under blankets with a mug of hot cocoa"). The close-up, intensely colored photographs are as inviting as the text and echo the colors suggested for each season. Despite the brevity of this volume, Brocket condenses a lot of information into a small space. The sprightly text combined with the outstanding photographs make this an excellent choice for the youngest nonfiction fans. Marge Loch-Wouters, La Crosse Public Library, WI
