In her latest endearing outing, free-thinking Oddrey wants to maintain her individuality while playing on her school soccer team. Ultimately, she convinces their star player to embrace teamwork ("You mean, you want me to pass the ball?"). The slick, cartoony art, in which one spread might contain multiple images of a character, would be well suited to a comic strip.

School Library Journal (Fri Aug 01 00:00:00 CDT 2014)

K-Gr 2 Oddrey is back, this time convincing her soccer team that there is more than one way to play ball and that they should try working as a team. Their clueless coach just stands by scratching his head, while she comes up with the play to save the big game. Oddrey is a cartoon-style girl with a daisy on her head, and all of the illustrations have a comic book feel, right down to the "wap, boot, bonk" as the ball connects and bounces off of the players. Give this to fans of the first Oddrey books; it should spark a dicussion of sportsmanship and working together. Kelly Roth, Bartow County Public Library, Cartersville, GA

Oddrey loved sports. Sometimes she even liked to make up her own.
So when her friend Maybelline asked her to join the school soccer team, Oddrey decided she'd give it a try.
Oddrey played soccer a bit differently than the other kids on the team. At her first practice with the Piccadilla Bees, she showed everyone her stuff.

Oddrey has always been the kind of girl who marches to the beat of her own drum, first in her school's production of The Wizard of Oz and later when she pulls some impressive antics to rescue Maybelline, the new girl at school, from the monkey enclosure at the zoo. Now Oddrey's back for a third adventure, this time bringing her exuberant spirit to the soccer field. Maybelline encourages Oddrey to join the school team, the Piccadilla Bees, and it's not long until their big game against the Quagville Crushers. The Bees struggle to find their stride, but Oddrey is convinced she has a solution. True to form, she thinks that if her teammates bring their own individual talents -- dancing, karate-kicking, and cartwheeling -- to bear on the problem, they may just have a shot Grade: 2 Fountas & Pinnel: J Reading Recovery: 17 Lexile Measure: AD 540L Common Core State Standards: CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.2.3,4,4a,5,5a,5b,6 CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.2.3,3f,4,4a,4c CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.2.1,2,3,5,6,7,10 CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.2.1,3,5,7,8
