The Student Handbook to Economics series covers such topics as international economics and macro- and micro-economics. This volume is practical for teenagers, as it explains how they can bring entrepreneurship into their own lives. But first readers are given "the big picture": an introduction to economic systems, the evolution of American business, and a history of the U.S. economy. The book then looks at "firms" (i.e., corporations); the external environment for business; and the ins and outs of becoming an entrepreneur, which includes an "Entrepreneur Quiz." (The right answers seem obvious, but it might focus some readers.) The second half of the book deals with actual business start-ups and how to grow a company. This is quite readable and full of valuable information for budding business types. Sidebars, a few charts, and a 14-page glossary bolster the strong text.

Because globalization opens international borders throughout the world, the study of international economics has become increasingly relevant. International Economics begins with a discussion of globalization and addresses economic development, trade and comparative advantage, trade barriers, exchange rates, the balance of payments, and major international organizations today such as the UN, IMF, and the World Bank. This brand-new resource concludes with a discussion of different economic systems.
