One of the challenges of teaching older reluctant or emergent readers is finding lower-level reading material that is nevertheless age-appropriate. The solution is so-called “High/Low” (for “high interest-low reading level”) books--books with topics and themes that will appeal to older kids and teens, but which are written at a lower level of difficulty. High/Low books enable these students to continue developing their reading skills with material that will hold their interest and respect their higher level of maturity and social development.
