Contemplative - Thoughtful observation in solitude, creating a deep consideration.
Jon J Muth’s birthday is on July 28th.
His mother was an art teacher and took him to museums all over the U.S. Jon studied stone sculpture in Japan; paintings, prints and drawings in Austria, Germany, and England; and was an English major at SUNY, New Paltz. His first one-man exhibit of painting and drawings was at the invitation of Wilmington College when he was eighteen. His comic books have been published by several major publishers. Jon has written music, and performed, narrated and produced BBC educational television and for many other occasions as well.
“Drawing was my way of making things exist which didn’t exist. And writing became a way to have my drawings interact.” “When I am painting in the right state of mind, my hand disappears, the brush disappears, the paint stops being paint, and all that exists is the thing that’s becoming.”
Jon’s children’s books emerged through reflection and discovery of feelings as a new father. He wanted to contribute what his mind and heart were contemplating. It wasn’t just his personal worldview expression anymore, it was now expression of life itself. His books have received many awards and critical acclaim.
Jon lives in upstate New York with his wife and four children, where he spends time “chasing clouds from his brushes.”
