Billy Steers grew up on a small farm in Connecticut, where his parents raised mostly sheep. Horses, rabbits, pigs, chickens, and calves were also animals on the farm. “All the animals had their own character, and I felt the farm vehicles did, too,” Billy recalls.
Billy graduated from the University of Utah, where he studied geography and cartography, then became a pilot in the U.S. Air Force. He began writing and illustrating using bedtime stories he told his boys. His illustrations of farm machines and implements are thoroughly researched to ensure they are accurate.
Billy is currently a commercial pilot, author, and illustrator. He lives in Connecticut with his wife and three sons. Sometimes, you may find him on his 1948 Farmall Cub Tractor (complete with headlamp eyes and a big smile), mowing fields, hauling firewood, or at local fairs and schools.
