R.L. Stine
Imaginative - Having a lively imagination, especially a creative imagination that is able to think of something new.
R.L. Stine’s birthday is on October 8th.
Robert Lawrence Stine was born in Columbus, Ohio. He found a typewriter in his attic at the age of 9 and began writing stories and jokes and handed them out at school. He wrote for his high school newspaper, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Ohio State University, and moved to New York where he worked on a variety of writing jobs.
His memory and imagination are his sources for book ideas. He thinks back to what he was afraid of and what scared him, and tries to put those feelings into books.
Stine offers advice to aspiring authors: “If you want to be a writer, don’t worry so much about writing. Read as much as you can. Read as many different writers as you can. Soak up the styles. You can learn all kinds of ways to say things.” As a child he would get a haircut every Saturday so he could read the comic books at the barbershop.
R.L. Stine and his wife, Jane, live in New York City.
