Liesl Shurtliff was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. Before she became a writer, Liesl graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in music, dance, and theater. Her first book, Rump: The True Story of Rumpelstiltskin, won over kids and critics alike, earning an IRA Award, a Texas Bluebonnet nomination, a Whitney nomination, multiple state awards listings and a starred review from Kirkus Reviews, proclaiming it “as good as gold.” She is also the author of Jack: The True Story of Jack and the Beanstalk and Red: The True Story of Red Riding Hood–on sale in April 2016. She lives in Chicago with her family, where she continues to spin fairytales.
